Old bike, new van and an interesting gear box for the Ranch Wagon

My son came home with this jewel yesterday and I love it's lines.

The A.F.Y. Van! One ton four wheel drive done right with a super rare high pinion Dana 60 up front, NP 205 transfer case, overbuilt C6 and a 460 for now.

It's a blank canvas ready to be outfitted with a solar power system for boon docking and stealth camping.
For now we'll throw a mattress in the back and pee out the back door.

Scored this one of the CL on friday for $50. I love "black sheep" wives tales that surround certain motors and transmissions. This is the notorious Top Loader "Impostor"! Like the 6.2 diesel this poor trans got a bad rap. Power shifting into overdrive and towing heavy loads in top gear will take it's toll on these old gear boxes. The beauty of the "Impostor" is while sharing the same super strong case design with the legendary top loader, on the inside it has a wide ratio 3 speed with third gear being a 1:1 ratio. When forth gear is selected it goes into a .85 overdrive where the old third gear used to be in the cluster. Updated bearings and synchros and it's a perfect choice for the Ranch Wagon. I thought I was a big winner getting a top loader for fifty clams but it turns out I was just losing with class.
